Journal of Indonesian Scholars for Social Research (JISSR)

The Journal of Indonesian Scholars for Social Research (JISSR) is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal that upholds the highest ethical principles in academic publishing. The journal strictly follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, ensuring integrity, transparency, and accountability throughout the publication process.

JISSR is committed to fostering ethical research practices and preventing any form of publication misconduct to maintain scholarly credibility. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties engaged in the publishing process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher. The journal has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism, falsification, fabrication, duplicate submissions, and unethical authorship practices. Any misconduct allegations will be addressed according to COPE’s ethical guidelines and flowcharts to ensure fair resolution.

1. Editorial Responsibilities

The Editorial Board of JISSR is responsible for ensuring the quality, fairness, and ethical integrity of all published work. The Editor-in-Chief and handling editors are tasked with maintaining a transparent, impartial, and confidential peer review process. Decisions on manuscript acceptance or rejection must be based solely on academic merit, free from biases related to authors' nationality, institutional affiliation, race, gender, or political beliefs.

Editorial Decision-Making

  • Editors must evaluate submissions objectively, assessing their originality, significance, and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Editorial decisions should be based on reviewers’ reports, the journal’s scope, and overall research quality.
  • Editors have the right to consult with fellow editors or reviewers before making a final decision.
  • If an editor has a conflict of interest, they must delegate the manuscript to another editor to ensure impartiality.
  • JISSR enforces a double-blind peer review system, where authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other.
  • Editors must provide clear and constructive feedback to authors, ensuring that reviewer comments are professional and free from inappropriate content.
  • If allegations of misconduct, plagiarism, or ethical violations arise, editors must take immediate action by following COPE’s ethical guidelines.

Confidentiality and Integrity

  • Editors and editorial staff must preserve the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not use unpublished data for personal research.
  • Editors must respect authors' requests for excluding certain reviewers, provided there are valid reasons.

2. Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of scholarly research by providing objective and constructive evaluations of submitted manuscripts.

Ethical Guidelines for Reviewers

  • Reviewers must assess manuscripts fairly, without bias, and provide constructive, evidence-based critiques.
  • The confidentiality of the peer review process must be strictly upheld—manuscripts must not be shared, discussed, or cited before publication.
  • Reviewers should identify ethical concerns, including plagiarism, duplicate publications, or possible research misconduct.
  • If reviewers detect potential conflicts of interest, such as prior collaborations with the authors, they must decline the review assignment.
  • If a reviewer cannot complete a review on time, they should notify the editor immediately so that an alternative reviewer can be assigned.

3. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are expected to adhere to the highest standards of research integrity by ensuring that their work is original, properly cited, and free from unethical practices.

Originality and Plagiarism

  • Authors must submit entirely original work and correctly cite all sources to prevent plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
  • Manuscripts must not be under simultaneous consideration by multiple journals.
  • JISSR employs plagiarism detection software to identify cases of text similarity and potential academic misconduct.

Authorship and Contributions

  • Authorship should be limited to individuals who have significantly contributed to conceptualizing, designing, conducting, analyzing, or interpreting the research.
  • All authors must approve the final manuscript before submission.
  • Ghostwriting, guest authorship, and honorary authorship are strictly prohibited.

Data Integrity and Transparency

  • Authors must ensure that data is accurately reported, avoiding fabrication, falsification, or image manipulation.
  • Authors should provide funding disclosures, conflict of interest statements, and acknowledgments as required.
  • If errors or inaccuracies are identified post-publication, authors must inform the journal immediately so that corrections or retractions can be issued.

Ethical Compliance in Research

  • Authors conducting research involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must provide ethical clearance from an institutional review board (IRB) and obtain informed consent when applicable.
  • Research involving human subjects should adhere to international ethical standards such as the Declaration of Helsinki and the Belmont Report.

4. Publisher’s Responsibilities

JISSR’s publisher ensures editorial independence, integrity, and transparency in the publishing process.

  • The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions and ensures that the peer review process remains independent.
  • Ethical misconduct allegations are handled by COPE’s guidelines, and appropriate retractions or corrections are issued when necessary.

5. Handling Misconduct, Retractions, and Corrections

JISSR follows COPE’s retraction guidelines to uphold the integrity of the scholarly record.

  • Articles may be corrected or retracted in cases of plagiarism, data fabrication, ethical breaches, or undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • The journal will publish errata, corrigenda, or statements of concern if significant errors are identified after publication.
  • If allegations of scientific misconduct arise, JISSR’s Editorial Board will conduct an investigation and take appropriate corrective actions.
